CAUNTON RIDERS

OLIVER TOWNEND MBE

Winner of both Badminton and Burghley in 2009, Burghley again in 2017 and 2023, and Kentucky in 2018, 2019 and 2021, the FEI World number 1 rider’s success has always been based on hard graft and a love for the horses he works with.

Oliver was selected to represent Great Britain at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, fulfilling a lifetime’s dream. As pathfinders they led the team to a convincing victory and individual fifth place. This was Britain’s first Olympic eventing team gold since 1972.

Oliver signed a ground breaking deal with Caunton Stud at the start of 2022, replicating a Formula One/Premiership type of deal that would see him as the official rider of top selected Caunton horses.

GEORGE BARTLETT

George has been based at the Caunton Stud for over seven years and is responsible for the backing, breaking and production of all young Caunton horses and stallions. George made his debut at 2* level in 2022 after only making his first appearance in any competition arena in 2021. Exactly one year later in 2023, George finished in 3rd place in his first 3* on board Conpierre at Blair Castle International Horse Trials.

In his early years George pursued a professional gymnastic career and also attended Leeds University, working for the stud still on a part time basis until finishing his studies.

George hopes to climb through the levels of eventing over the next few years as well as continuing to produce some future superstars along the way.
